Bolton School Boys' Division Junior School has received a
first-rate report by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. The
school was found to be "a remarkable school's offering a high
quality and extensive education.
Much of the success could be attributed to mutual respect and
good relationships between pupils and their teachers. Teaching was
praised as being of a consistently good quality; the provision for
literacy and numeracy was found to be particularly strong. Pupils
were found to take great pride in their work, whilst being
appreciative of others and their work. The report commended the
boys for working with high levels of concentration as they
constantly sought to achieve excellence.
The pastoral system was described as being outstanding and the
support and guidance offered by teachers was found to be a
distinctive feature of the School. The Thinking Book was singled
out for praise - a mechanism allowing pupils to feedback on
anything that is concerning them. The spiritual, moral, social and
cultural development of pupils was found to be outstanding in all
parts of the school. Not only do junior school pupils contribute to
local and national charities but they are carefully educated to
understand the nature and purpose of these charities. As a
consequence, pupils were found to have high levels of
self-confidence and a strong moral sense as well as a developed
degree of social awareness.
The report noted that since the last inspection (six years ago),
success in an ever-broadening range of activities has been
recorded. Some of these changes included entry at 7+ to enable
provision of the whole of the Key Stage 2 national curriculum,
provision of a new, on-site dining room facility, introduction of
PSHCE, improved ICT resources, introduction of a junior school
parents' group and the strengthening of pastoral care through the
appointment of heads of year. Moving forwards, the report
recommended extending the usage of ICT to a wider range of
subjects.
Mr Mike Percik, Head of the Junior School, commented: "Both the
teaching staff and the boys are very proud of their school, they
work really hard and attain some outstanding results. I am
delighted that the report has confirmed this."
