Bolton School Junior Boys filled the Boys' Division Great Hall
with a host of festive music and song in their Annual Christmas
Carol Service.
The Lower School Choir treated family and friends to
performances of 'Rise Up Shepherd' and 'Carol of the Children',
while the Upper School Choir impressed with 'Tomorrow Shall Be My
Dancing Day' and 'Ding Dong Merrily on High'. Whole school
renditions of 'The Holly and the Ivy' and 'Twentieth Century Carol'
filled the hall, along with a vibrant performance of 'Pop Goes
Christmas' from the Recorder Group and several Christmas readings
from the boys including an extract from 'A Christmas Carol'.
The audience joined in throughout the service with hymns and
carols including favourites 'Once in Royal David's City' after a
solo performance of verse one by Jonathan Topping, 'See Him Lying
on a Bed of Straw', 'O Little Town of Bethlehem', 'Hark the Herald
Angels Sing' and 'O Come All Ye Faithful', and Mr Whittaker, Head
of Junior Boys, finished the service with prayers and blessing.
At the end of the service, there was a collection for Ondukuta
Combined School in Namibia which the Junior School is now partnered
with. The partnership was formed through the Diocese of Manchester,
which has formal links with the Anglican Diocese Namibia in
Southern Africa, and benefits both schools as they share and learn
from one another. The funds will go towards teaching and learning
resources and ICT development, and in the future the Ondukuta
School hopes to be able to build a library, science laboratory and
meeting hall.
