The Junior Boys' Hall was packed to the rafters for their annual
Harvest festival in aid of the Drop-in Centre at St Luke's Church
on Chorley Old Road.
The whole school, along with many parents, gathered in the hall
where Head Teacher, Mr Stephen Whittaker, opened the ceremony. They
sang hymns and listened to an address and prayers by the Reverend
Stuart Cornes of St Luke's Church. He spoke to the audience about
how the drop-in centre benefits individuals' lives, and reminded
them that their gifts of food will help to prepare the 70 free
meals a day that the centre provides. Boys from Years 4, 5 and 6
also performed songs for the large audience.
The boys and their parents brought in a wide range of food items
to donate to the drop-in centre, along with bulbs that will be
planted in the school grounds. This is the fourth year that the
Junior School has supported the centre, which aims to enable people
from the local community to overcome problems and whose work is
particularly geared towards helping the homeless, long-term
unemployed and the elderly. The centre provides over 10,000 free
meals every year.
