The below match report has been written by Year 6 pupil,
George Morgan, the U11 cricket captain.
This year, the Bolton School under 11 cricket team won the
Association for Junior Independent Schools' Cup for the first time
since 2008. The day of the final was the end of a very hectic few
days of matches, with the semi final only three days before - a
hard fought victory away at Kings School, Chester.
The final was held at the home ground of our opponents,
Newcastle under Lyme School which meant our longest coach drive of
the season of 75 minutes. We won the toss and chose to field
first. Andrew Mattison opened the bowling and had an immediate
impact, taking six wickets in his opening four overs, including a
great reflex catch from James Larkin at short on. Newcastle reached
63 all out in 14 overs.
In response, we made a solid start with Daniel Southworth and
Benjamin Sykes and we quickly racked up the runs. I was very
pleased to share a fourth wicket partnership of nearly 50 with
Daniel and we reached our target of 64 with nine overs and seven
wickets remaining. We celebrated on the long journey back to
Bolton! On behalf of all the team, I would like to thank our
excellent coach Mr Duxbury for his hard work organising our
fixtures this summer.
