Junior School pupils from Bolton School Junior Boys and Junior
Girls, as well as junior pupils from Sunninghill and High Lawns
School took part in a Skype Chess Match against Polish
pupils.
A total of 14 pupils played a number of online chess matches
against slightly older pupils (aged 9-14) from Rybnik
Middle School in Poland, using chess software available on the
internet.
The matches at Hesketh House were one set in a series of four,
with games being played at the four Bolton junior schools. The
first match was discounted as they were getting used to the
software, the children from Rybnik won the second game 6.5-7.5 and
Bolton won the third match 7.5- 6.5. The final match will take
place on the 30th January. The children were very
excited and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - they were able to
say hello to their opponents and wave to them using Skype.
A junior school chess team is hoping to go out to play games in
Paderborn in Germany later in the year and Rybnik and Bolton are
now planning a live visit and chess matches or tournaments.
