Bolton School Boys' Division Junior Department's Under 11
cricket team finished their season in spectacular style with a
"magic Monday" in Stockport.
In the morning they faced King's Macclesfield in the final of
the AJIS Cup. Having lost to them earlier in the season with an
under strength team, the full strength side proved a different
quantity.
A tight opening spell from Will Dowie restricted the King's
openers and then Matthew Parkinson removed both of them with his
wily spin bowling. Joe Topping chipped in with a couple of wickets
and Henry Smith bamboozled their tail with his spin to finish with
the outstanding figures of 4 wickets for 9 runs. Sam Hart made four
stumpings!
King's total of 68 looked beatable on a ground with short
boundaries. This proved to be the case once Matthew Parkinson got
into his stride. He had an early let-off but then despatched the
bad balls, hitting six fours and two sixes, the second one to win
the game with still nearly six of the twenty overs remaining.
Seven of the team then stayed on at Stockport Grammar to
represent the School in the annual six-a-side tournament there. In
the group stages, Bolton School defeated Cheadle Hulme and
Stockport's 'B' team. As group winners the team went into the
semi-finals where it met a strong Altrincham Prep team. Victory saw
Bolton School through to the final where the team overcame QEGS
Blackburn by 18 runs.
Bolton 58 for 3; QEGS 40 for 3.
Two trophies in one day! Well done boys.
