Girls Celebrate All Things German

Friday, 08 February 2013

Thursday at Hesketh House was International Day 2013 with a host of activities to celebrate everything German.

All girls came off timetable to spend a day filled with cross-curricular activities, exploring the food, language and culture of Germany and researching interesting German facts.

Girls moved around the school on a ‘carousel’ of different German-themed tasks. They learned some German words to order a variety of German foods in a set up café, and after sampling the foods they voted on their favourites. They looked at the world’s first animated film (by a German artist) and had a go at making their own animations using stop motion software. Pupils also stepped into the shoes of the Brothers Grimm, telling stories and using their traditional tales as inspiration for huge whole-school paintings reminiscent of the Berlin Wall graffiti art. At lunch they enjoyed more traditional German foods.

It was a non-stop day of challenge for the girls and an enjoyable and memorable experience for them all.
