Bolton School Year 5 pupils took part in a ceramic workshop to
make pieces of artwork which will be on display in the new
school.
Artist, Adrian Holt, came in to school to show the girls how to
mould clay into the right shapes to put on a slab or tile, which
will then fit together like a jigsaw on the wall.
To prepare for the session the girls did some research in ICT to
choose images relevant to the School heritage, history, community
and local environment, and they used these, as well as
incorporating aspects of school life, iconic symbols and
extra-curricular activities to produce designs on paper. Adrian
then helped them to make the designs they had previously prepared
on paper come to life.
Anu and Grace from 5H said: "We thought about what makes our
school special and tried to include these things in our design. We
worked in groups on different parts to make the sections of our
masterpiece."
The pieces will now be fired and then glazed by the girls before
being mounted and hung for all to admire.
Teacher Jenny Labbe said: "The girls have thoroughly enjoyed
working with the clay and have produced superb work which will be a
credit to our new entrance area at Hesketh House."
