Bolton School Junior Girls' have been busy collecting gifts,
educational supplies, and hygiene items to send to underprivileged
children in Serbia.
The collection was part of Operation Christmas Child, the
World's largest children's Christmas appeal, and involved girls
from Years 3 to 6 each putting together a shoebox of useful items
to be sent to disadvantaged children. David Hall, local coordinator
for Operation Christmas Child, came along to the school to collect
the finished boxes, which will be sent to Serbia on 28 November in
time for Christmas.
Girls were asked to decide if their gift would be for a girl or
boy and the age range it would be suitable for. They were
encouraged to wrap their box in colourful Christmas paper and then
fill it with items such as jewellery, dolls, soft toys, puzzle
books, pens, balls and toy cars, alongside more practical items
including soap, toothpaste, gloves and scarves.
The appeal is organised by Samaritan's Purse - a charity which
aims to meet the critical needs of victims of war, famine, poverty,
disease and natural disaster, whilst sharing the good news of Jesus
Christ. Last year 1.25m shoeboxes packed full of gifts and goodies
were collected in the UK and a staggering 7m were collected
worldwide. As well as Serbia where the girls' gifts are off to,
boxes also go to other countries in Eastern Europe, Africa and
Central Asia.
