Two teams from Bolton School Girls Division Junior Department
have won their way through to the 14th Team Championships for
Primary Schools at Ponds Forge Sheffield on 21 June.
Twenty three teams from the North-West took part in the
preliminary round of the National Schools' competition at Broughton
Pool on Friday 25 April. They were battling it out to see who would
go forward to the final as the winning Medley Relay and Freestyle
Relay teams.
After all the heats were swum the Bolton School team found
itself in 3rd place, some 2 seconds behind Bury and Stockport
Grammar in the Freestyle relay. The girls - Georgia Ball,
Emma Burns, Vicky Whitehead and Emily Barclay - swam personal best
times and their sheer determination pulled them into second place,
which enabled qualification to the final.
Half an hour later and the Medley Relay team found themselves in
a similar position. Again, the team was behind Bury and Stockport
but this time with a 3 second margin to make up. The four girls -
Georgia Ball, Ellen Dick, Vicky Whitehead and Emily Barclay - swam
an incredible race to finish second and earn a place alongside 22
other teams in the finals in June.
"We are incredibly proud of all our girls; their behaviour,
attitude and performance has been outstanding," said Mrs Patricia
Hall, the girls' swimming coach.
