Swimmers Qualify for National Final

Friday, 22 April 2016

Five girls from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Everton Park in Liverpool to take part in the qualifying round of the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) North West Division Primary Team Championships.

The girls competed in two relay events: Harriet Dickens, Kiana Murray and Bethany Shum swam in both races, with Anna Wiggetts joining the team for the Medley Relay and Lucy Sackfield as the fourth swimmer for the Freestyle Relay. There was lots of pressure as the girls knew that the top three teams in each race would qualify for the National Finals.

In the Medley Relay the girls came in third place with a time of 1 minute 18.03 seconds, less than two second behind the team in first place.

They did one better in the Freestyle Relay, earning second place with a time of 1 minute 6.61 seconds – 0.12 seconds behind the winners!

All of the girls swam really well and are now looking forward to competing at the National Finals, which will be held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Saturday 18 June.
