The Year 3 girls spent an afternoon learning about healthy eating with the catering department. The H Factor helped the girls to understand more about nutrition and diet, the variety of foods that they need to eat, and how eating well can help them to stay fit and healthy.
As part of the session, the girls were able to explore a wide variety of unusual fruits and vegetables with help from the catering department. They found out about some more unusual foods that can be prepared to make a delicious healthy meal and the herbs and spices that can be added to make it even tastier. The girls were able to taste a variety of fruits and vegetables that they may not have seen before as well, including tomberries, starfuit, and cucamelons.
Pupils created their own personalised fruit smoothies using pedal-power on the smoothie bike. They chose their own ingredients before hopping onto the saddle and using their own energy to mix the smoothie. This was lots of fun and a tasty treat for them all.
The girls folded and played with ‘chatterboxes’ containing information about nutrition. Their games allowed them to find out more about different food groups. They also completed word puzzles based on healthy eating, made a collage of foody images, and created their own lunch menu ideas to get them thinking about the subject.
The H Factor was a wonderful way to introduce the Junior Girls to the concept of healthy eating in a fun and exciting way.
