Overview

The link between School and home is of critical importance and parents play an active role in their daughter's education.

The Junior Girls' Parents' Association is run as a sub committee of the Senior Girls' Association. The main purpose of the Junior Girls' PA is to provide curriculum enhancing activities and other fun events appropriate to the age of the Junior Girls.

In this school academic year so far we have organized: the Annual Firework Display, a joint activity with the Senior Girls' Parents' Association; the 'Pink Palace' stall at the Junior Boys' Christmas Fair; the Junior Girls' Christmas Disco, the premier event of the term which gets the girls' Christmas activities off to a sparkling (and extremely noisy) start; an outgrown uniform sale giving the opportunity for parents of new/existing girls to purchase good quality uniform at reduced prices and for parents of older/growing girls to pass it on; and a luxury Christmas Hamper raffle where 3 lucky winners walked away with bundles of luxury treats.

On Saturday 6 February we are hosting a Valentine Ball to raise funds for some of those special extras for the New Junior Girls' School, Hesketh House. The Arts Centre in Bolton School provides us with a wonderful venue, the ticket price includes a three course dinner, a live band to entertain you and great fun at our Casino. Dress code is 'black tie' for the gents and 'full length and fabulous' for the ladies - it's a great opportunity to dress up and have a fantastic evening and celebrate Valentines Day!

Later this year we will be hosting Easter Bingo and a Summer Fashion Show for the girls, a refreshment tent at Sports Day and a further outgrown uniform sale.

In addition to the above we have also funded activities such as a visit by the Young Shakespeare group, equipment for storage of playground toys, new chess sets and clocks for the Chess Club, tracksuits for the Cross Country and Netball teams and leavers t-shirts for the year 6 girls.

The Junior Girls' PA is a great way to meet other parents, and also to become a little more involved in school life. Many people are concerned about taking on a commitment to help but for committee members there are only five meetings per year and we also run an active list of parents who are simply 'happy to help' with particular events. We would be delighted to welcome new and existing parents to join in as new members/helpers. If you think you can help (even just a little bit) please get in touch and do come along to our next meeting which will be held on Monday 8 March at 7.00pm.

The Joint Chairs of the Association for 2009-2010 are Rebecca Joyce and Jane Halstead. A member of the Parents' Association Committee also serves as Parent Governor. The current holder of this post is Amanda Valentine.

Parents may find the GSA website My Daughter a valuable source of up-to-date information, expert opinion and useful advice on all aspects of educating and raising girls.  You can read a parent's thoughts on the Junior Girls' School on the My Daughter site.
