Mr Steve King is the new Head of the Junior Boys’ School – otherwise known as Park Road - at Bolton School. Mr King joins the school from Garden International School, Kuala Lumpur where he led Key Stage 2 for seven years. Prior to that, he spent nine years at The British International School, Shanghai, another large international school, where he enjoyed several roles of responsibility, moving from English lead to Deputy Head and then Head of Junior School.
Reflecting on his first two weeks at Park Road, Mr King said: ‘The School has been what I expected in that it is a really vibrant and busy environment with quality teaching and high expectations of the students’ behaviour and conduct.
‘I have been most impressed by how articulate the boys are and how comfortable they are talking with adults. My favourite part of the day is having lunch with the boys and finding out more about them as individuals. They are incredibly inquisitive and enthusiastic in conversation.’
In the weeks ahead I look forward to learning more about the school as I get to really know the children, staff and parents. I aim to find out more about what we do well and how we can continually improve on what is clearly already a fantastic school. All the feedback I have received so far is about what a brilliant school Park Road is and I could not agree more.
‘I aim to ensure that we track the boys’ development – academically and, also, to ensure that we are confident that they are taking advantage of opportunities in school and at home in order to become well-rounded, confident young men ready to face the world.’
Head of Primary Division at Bolton School, Mrs Sue Faulkner, said: 'I am delighted to welcome Mr King to Bolton School and I am very much looking forward to working with him in the years to come. With Mr King at the helm, I am sure that Park Road will continue to go from strength to strength within our Primary Division.'
Mr King also has experience of teaching in a small village school in West Yorkshire and as a Teaching Assistant in Rochdale. He has a BA Hons in Media Production and a PGCE.
