Despite all that you have heard about VAT on fees, we have committed to never increasing fees annually by more than 5%, including the cost of any VAT that might be applied, and to never increasing our fees mid-year. We hope that as soon as the situation stabilises we will return to normal inflation related rises. Between 2015 and 2022, fees rose by 2% every year.

All of our quoted fees include VAT where VAT is applicable.

Payment Options

Fees should be paid by direct debit, and a fee bill will be issued prior to the start of each term.

For those who choose to pay by monthly direct debit, each termly bill will be paid in four equal monthly instalments as follows:

  • Autumn term – September, October, November, December
  • Spring term – January, February, March, April
  • Summer term – May, June, July, August

For those who choose to pay by termly direct debit, payment will be taken in full on the first day of each term.

Each termly bill will also include:

  • The charge for any contracted coach fares for that term;
  • The charge for lunches for that term;
  • The charge for the compulsory Patterdale Hall curriculum trip (in the term in which it takes place); and
  • For Senior School pupils, the compulsory examination fees (the cost of which is spread evenly throughout the three terms of each year of the pupil’s time in the Senior School, before the examinations are sat in Years 11 and 13).

For VAT purposes, the termly fee bill will show detail about these component parts of the total fee, to reflect the differing rates of VAT which are applicable to them.  None of the above components are optional.

If you suffer a downturn in your financial circumstances while your child is at school, please contact our Clerk and Treasurer at the earliest opportunity, who will be sympathetic and may be able to help.

Fee Protection Insurance

The School recognises that the payment of school fees represents a long-term financial commitment on the part of parents and understands that any number of entirely unpredictable events can interfere with the ability to pay school fees over such a long period. Death, long-term or critical illness, redundancy or business failure are all reasons why parents become unable to pay fees.

Both prospective and current parents are strongly urged to take measures to protect their ability to pay future school fees. Some parents may already have life cover, which would provide some capital in the event of their death, and a lesser number will have some form of income protection insurance. It is possible to protect fee payments against all of the above risks, and there are a number of different financial institutions which will offer products covering some or all of them. Parents may also wish to seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser or from the School Fees Insurance Agency (free phone 0800 282 997) whose services are endorsed by the Independent Schools Council.

There are also a number of specialist companies who provide fee insurance schemes for parents. Two well known companies are HSBC Insurance Brokers and SFS Group. The School has no financial connection with either of those companies and does not specifically endorse their products. However, information regarding their products can be accessed by clicking on this link to the SFS Group web site.
