Bolton School's Early Years Foundation Stage (0-5 years old) has
been described as "outstanding" in all aspects of its provision
after a visit by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. It is
highly unusual for a school to be found to be outstanding in all
categories - the quality of provision, the progress in learning,
the setting and the leadership and management.
The report, covering Bolton School Nursery, Beech House (Infant
School) and Kidzone, the out of school club, found: "Highly
effective teaching nurtures lively independent minds, personal
confidence and respect for others" in "an outstanding setting"
where the welfare of the children is of extreme
importance.
Children were found to "learn and develop exceptionally well
through stimulating play and valuable first-hand experience,"
resulting in "outstanding progress." There was also praise
for how well the school meets the needs of individual children,
provides tailored programmes of learning and monitors
progress. Behaviour was judged to be "exemplary "and the
report noted that there were excellent links with
parents.
The leadership team was described as outstanding and Mrs Gill
Richards, Bolton School's Headmistress, said: "We are delighted
with the report. In all my years in education I have not come
across such a glowing report, where all categories are judged as
outstanding. A child's formative years provide the foundation
upon which their life is built and we have always worked hard to
ensure that we provide the very best start in life."
The report found that since the last inspection more spacious
accommodation had been provided for Reception children in the
purpose built Infant School (Beech House) and excellent, varied
resources are provided.
Head of Beech House, Hilary Crawforth, commented "We are
particularly delighted that the inspectors recognised the joy and
enthusiasm our children experience each day as they play and learn.
Our staff work hard to provide excellent care and education and the
report is a tribute to their dedication and expertise."
Mrs Claire Thompson, Nursery Manager, added: "I am very pleased
that the report recognises the hard work and dedication that our
team puts into helping children become independent, confident
learners and individuals. The report recognises the
outstanding care and education that is provided here and we are all
very proud of what we have achieved."
