During Year 10 and 11, pupils have the opportunity to undertake work experience. The aim of the placement is to stimulate their curiosity about the world of work as well as putting into practice the skills taught throughout the Lower and Middle Schools. Our pupils invariably find that as a result of their work experience, they are able to adapt more quickly to future working environments.
In Years 12 and 13, further work experience and work shadowing placements are available. Pupils are encouraged to show initiative in securing the best experiences required to support their application to university and beyond.
Bolton School is keen to develop links with industry and works with some of the biggest and most prestigious national and international companies to gain work experience for our pupils. It is the only school in the country to have a partnership with KPMG, one of the big four professional services companies. Every summer, Year 12 boys can apply for a 4-week paid summer internship with the company. Locally we work with Cowgill Holloway on the ‘Future Stars’ programme which identifies determined and talented individuals and gives them exposure to a wide variety of financial roles. Both of these schemes are highly competitive and sought after.
