Physical Education

Bolton School Boys' Division has a large and highly successful Physical Education Department. As well as its departmental staff, there are over 50 members of the Common Room involved in delivering the sports programme that is offered throughout the school.

Facilities consist of extensive on-site playing fields; a 25-metre indoor swimming pool; a sports hall; a gymnasium; tennis courts; a fitness suite and an outdoor pursuits centre in the Lake District. The department also benefits greatly from the use of local astroturf facilities, and the nearby David Lloyd Centre and Bolton Arena.

Physical Education is taught to all students in the curriculum in years 7 - 13 inclusive. In every year group together with a wide range of traditional sports, outdoor pursuits form an integral part of the physical education curriculum. During key stage 3 and 4 students take part in courses in athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross-country running, fitness training, football, gymnastics, hockey, outdoor pursuits, rugby, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

The School currently runs representative teams in athletics, badminton, biathlon, chess, cricket, cross-country running, football, golf, hockey, rugby, swimming, tennis and water polo. Individual students regularly compete at all levels up to and including international standard.
