Bolton School supports a variety of charities and good causes
each year and takes its fundraising role very seriously. The
School's Charities Committee, made up of senior pupils and chaired
by Mr Prentki, the Director of Extra-Curricular Activities, meets
regularly throughout the term to devise fundraising schemes and
decide which causes to support. The Lower, Middle and Upper School
Councils are also involved in deciding which charities are
supported through our fundraising efforts.
Money is raised through several regular events. The boys all
take part in a termly non-uniform day, making a small contribution
to a given charity for the pleasure. An annual Christmas card
competition takes place, with boys submitting their designs, with
the winning two being mass produced and sold to raise money. The
school supports the annual Poppy Appeal, to raise as much money as
possible for The British Legion, and the Barnardo's Children's Home
charity.
The Charities Committee also devises a series of one-off events
to raise money. There was a Wear It Pink Day, on which sixth
formers and catering staff, were encouraged to wear pink shirts and
ties and, in doing so, contribute towards the national Breast
Cancer Awareness Appeal. Over forty students and staff volunteered
to abseil from the School clock tower over the centre arch. The
money raised was donated to Sport Relief, in memory of Daniel
Harrison and Jonny Sharples who were both committed sports
performers at school. Other events planned for later in the year
include a charity concert and The Battle of The Bands, featuring
students bands and with celebrity guest judges.
Individual pupils' fundraising schemes are also supported by the
School.
