Patrick Whelan a pupil at Bolton School Boys' Division has been
selected in the 2012 U16 men's England Squad for the European
Patrick's recent performance at the Regional Development
Tournament, where he was a starting five player for the North-West
of England and where he received a silver medal as a runner-up, was
the catalyst for his England call-up.
The initial squad of 30 players will be reduced to a final group
of 12 and a maximum of three reserves, which will be named in April
next year. The national squad's focus is to develop a team to
play well at the Euro Championships in July and August of next
Head of Performance at England Basketball, Warwick Cann, told
the squad: "The team is dependent on your continued development in
skill and physical conditioning. Your performance will be
carefully reviewed and is dependent not just on your perceived
talent, but on skill level and physical conditioning as well as
your attitude and commitment."
There will be camps for the squad in October and December with
international games in December with further camps and competition
at Easter before the final group prepares with a summer block of
games and camps.
