Headship of Bolton University passes from Old Girl to Old Boy

Tuesday, 09 July 2013

One of the country’s top judges and former Bolton School pupil, the Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder, Lord Justice of Appeal, has been appointed as head of the University of Bolton.

The university has appointed Sir Ernest Ryder as its next Chancellor, succeeding fellow former Bolton School pupil Baroness Morris of Bolton, whose three year term of office began in 2010 when she was appointed the first Chancellor of the University of Bolton.

Vice Chancellor, Dr George Holmes, said: “Sir Ernest’s appointment is a significant step for the university. His academic rigour and eminent standing in a subject which is central to the university’s future growth and his connection to us and our town make him the natural successor to Lady Morris. We will be forever indebted to Lady Morris for her for her support and the conviction with which she has carried out her duties.”

The Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder is expected to start in his new role at the start of next year.
