"I remember my days at school vividly and with great affection. Bolton School has a great tradition in the liberal arts. I've always acted for the love of it and this first love was inspired at Hopefield, the school theatre."

Impressive Big Band Jazz Festival Performance

Sunday, 06 March 2016

Bolton School's Joint Jazz Band, directed by Mr Wares, entertained the crowd at the ‘Great North Big Band Jazz Festival’ on Sunday 6 March performing three pieces – ‘Squib Cakes’ by Tower of Power; Mas Que Nada by Mendes; and Norwegian Wood by Lennon/McCartney.

The adjudicators described the soloists in the band as ‘impressive’ and described the overall sound as ‘very authentic’ with ‘very good ensemble detail’.

The best solo performance in the schools' section was awarded to the Jazz Band’s guitarist, James Stevens.

Last November, the band was awarded a place at the National Concert Band Festival Final which takes place at the Royal Northern College of Music next month.
