Bolton School U13 footballers took part in the Investec
ISFA national semi-final, putting them in the top four teams in the
country and the only remaining team from outside the London
area.
The team, coached by Mr Johnson and Mr Windsor, travelled to
Brentwood School to compete for a place in the ISFA final. The
team started quite slowly and had to do a lot of defending in the
first half. Little chances were created by both sides however and
the half time score was 0-0. The half time team talk took the whole
of the break and very important instructions were given to the boys
individually. The second half started much better, and Bolton were
straight into the action creating chances.
Jack Everest came extremely close to breaking the deadlock 5
minutes into the half when he was presented with a 1 on 1 chance
which only just went over the bar. However, with 20 minutes to go,
Jack took the ball down the right wing, went for a cross into the
box, and with a twist of fortune the ball flew into the back of the
net.
Excitement was around the Bolton support, players and coaches,
however this did not last long, as 10 minutes later Brentwood
snatched an equaliser from a well taken corner.
The match went on without a further goal and as the full time
whistle went, extra time loomed. The first 7 minute period of extra
time had 1 minute remaining when Brentwood took a short throw in,
and without being tackled, their winger had driven through our
defence and put away an extremely good finish. Half time of extra
time came immediately after and with a final 7 minutes of the match
to go, Bolton pushed and pushed but could not force the vital
equaliser.
The game finished 2 - 1 to Brentwood (After Extra
Time). Mr Windsor said: ''Although we were eliminated at the
semi-final round, it has been an extremely successful journey to
get this far and we are so very proud of the lads for such great
efforts. We know that they will only improve from this
downfall.''
Mr Johnson said: ''It was a tremendous effort from all of the
footballers. They worked ever so hard to get this far and we were
very impressed with the football they played this season.''
The U13 team are still in the Bolton Town Cup and still
host a fantastic record so far this season.
