In recent weeks Bolton School has entered the world of rugby
7s. The U13s visited KEQMS Lytham on Sunday 28 February and
despite their inexperience played well, enjoying their day which
finished with them narrowly losing 17-12 to Birkenhead School in
the Bowl Final.
The U15s also went to the Fylde coast, this time to Arnold
School. Bolton won two of their four group games, qualifying
for the plate. We then had a comfortable semi final victory
of 52-7 over Lytham. After this they convincingly beat QE
Kirby Lonsdale 42-17 to win the Plate final.
The following week the U15s travelled to the King's Macclesfield
7s competition, unfortunately this was the day after the boys' epic
Lancashire Plate semi final victory against Stonyhurst, 8-7.
A much depleted side competed well and enjoyed their day out
in a tough competition.
The School's Senior 7 were invited to Stonyhurst 7s for the
first time and despite certain players not being available,
competed very well in a strong group of five. Bolton beat
Shrewsbury 22-0 and Queen Ethelburga`s 22-21, losses to Stonyhurst
and St Edward`s meant the side finished a creditable third and
progressed into the plate competition. A 17-7 quarter final
victory v Birkenhead School took us to a semi final
against old foes St Ambrose College. Our opponents started
too well scoring three quick tries. Despite a valiant
comeback attempt, St Ambrose held on to a deserved win which took
them to the final.
A tired yet content squad headed home after a fantastic
experience. A special mention must go to Tom Reynolds
and Michael Shepherd who were called into the squad late
showing good pace as they crossed the line to score on a couple of
