School Claims Second Place in Schools' Climbing Championships

Wednesday, 25 March 2015

Bolton School won second place in the inaugural Greater Manchester Climbing Championships!

Two boys and two girls represented the School at this event, which was held at RockOver Climbing in Manchester. 165 competitors aged 7-18 from a grand total of nineteen schools travelled from across the region to take part, making this a large-scale and challenging competition. Entrants were split into four different age categories, with each pupil attempting a series of climbs with their score dependent on the number of attempts it takes to get to the top.

The Bolton School team included sisters Zoe and Isabella Grainger, who are in Year 8 and Year 5 in the Girls’ Division, and Boys’ Division pupils Andy Lee in Year 11 and Adam Palmer from Year 12. Isabella did an excellent job in the KS2 (7-11 years) category, taking on an impressive total of twenty-five problems. Her performance was enough to win her second place in her category! Zoe also did a great job with her climbing problems and won a bronze medal in the KS3 (11-14 years) competition, while the boys achieved good results in their categories as well.

There was a tremendous effort from all of the Bolton school pupils who took part, with the boys narrowly missing out on a podium finish. However, their combined performance was enough to win the School second place: a very impressive feat.

Some of Bolton School's Sixth Form climbers recently acted as adjudicators at RocFest, a national climbing competition for all ages and abilities, which was also held at RockOver Climbing. Zoe Grainger was one of the competitors and reached the final for her age group.
