School Links Up with Imperial War Museum

Monday, 27 September 2010

Bolton School has joined forces with the Imperial War Museum in an exciting new scheme in the Boys' Division History Department.

Thanks to the support offered by the School's Annual Fund, Miss Helen Breedon, an interactor at the Imperial War Museum North at Salford Quays, has begun a two term secondment as the Department's first ever 'Historian in Residence'. Miss Breedon will spend every Friday afternoon assisting the Department in the teaching of the boys' lessons ranging from Year 7 to Year 12 and she will also offer sessions at the weekly History Society meetings on Friday lunchtimes.

Head of History Mr James Rich said: "This is a thrilling partnership between Bolton School and the Imperial War Museum and will certainly enhance the boys' learning experience in History. Miss Breedon brings expertise in many areas of history, as well as access to some of the Imperial War Museum's artefacts and collections; she is already aware of Bolton School and its pupils from our annual Year 9 visits to the War Museum and this was one of the reasons she was so keen to take up the post. After just a couple of weeks it is clear that she is adding a new dimension to the teaching and learning we offer and I am most grateful for the support offered to this scheme by the School's Annual Fund."
