"While at school I had so many opportunities to participate in both the Senior Choir and Chamber Choir, and the Music Department regularly held informal concerts which were fantastic opportunities to perform."

School Production Celebrates 25 Years of Les Mis

Thursday, 18 March 2010

Bolton School has celebrated the 25th anniversary of Sir Cameron Mackintosh's Les Miserables with its own stunning performance of the legendary musical.  Over 1,000 paying guests will watch the production in the Boys' Division Great Hall over 4 sold out evenings (17-20 March).

Almost one hundred pupils, from Year 7 to the final year of Sixth Form, along with many teachers, have been involved in the School's two and a half hours, joint all singing production of Josef Weinberger's Les Miserables: School Edition.  The forty cast members have been rehearsing for months and have been ably supported by other pupils involved in designing the authentic and brilliantly coloured costumes and stage sets.  School musicians, directed by Mr Stephen Martin, ensured the tempo of the action.

Director of the show, Miss Amy Liptrott could not praise the students highly enough: "This has not felt like work at all, I and everyone involved in the production has had great fun.  From the very start, the cast and everyone involved have been absolutely fantastic.  Throughout there has been a 'can-do' attitude and everyone has been focused on producing a wonderful musical performance.  What's more, the students have done this whilst juggling GCSE, AS and A level exams!  I've been involved with such productions for many years and I cannot recall working with a more professional and talented cast!"
