This is a friendly and enthusiastic department with a proven
record of success. In recent years several of our candidates have
been awarded one of the top five marks in the country for GCSE and
A Level. The Department is accommodated in a suite of two
specialist rooms equipped with audio-visual and computer
facilities.
All girls begin Latin in Year 7, following the lively and modern
Cambridge Latin Course. Latin is an option at GCSE and it is also
possible for pupils to choose Classical Greek as a GCSE option in
Year 10.
In the Sixth Form, pupils continue their study of Latin and
Greek or pursue a course in Classical Civilisation. Sixth Form
students often choose to take one of the Classical subjects to
degree standard and several in recent years have gained entrance to
Oxford or Cambridge.
We also offer a varied programme of extra-curricular activities.
There are Junior and Senior Classics Clubs run jointly with the
Boys' Division and theatre visits, Sixth Form conferences and tours
of classical sites are regularly arranged. Recent visits include
Hadrian's Wall, Bath, Italy and Greece. We also enter the annual CA
Latin and Greek Reading Competition.
