The Economics and Business Studies Department is one of the
newest, having first offered A Level Business Studies in 1996 and
Economics in 2003. Numbers have increased since then with 50
students sitting examinations in the summer of 2009.
In September 2001, the Department endorsed its commitment to IT
by offering the Business Communication Systems GCSE in conjunction
with the ICT Department.
Our key aim is to develop an academic interest in these subjects
which goes beyond the confines of the textbook. Effective use of
the Internet as a key resource has opened up many new areas of
research and our objective is to encourage students to exploit
these and other new opportunities fully.
Whilst these subjects are essential for few careers, they are
extremely useful for many and fit well with many Advanced Level
subjects whether in the Arts or Sciences. A large number of our
students go on to read these, or related subjects, at
university.
