The Economics and Business Studies Department aim to develop an
academic interest in both subjects which goes beyond the confines
of a textbook. As they are topical subjects, girls are encouraged
to develop a broad knowledge of the external economic and business
worlds, through wider reading, topical debate and current class
based activities. We also offer a weekly current affairs workshop
where girls have the opportunity to discuss present-day economic
and business events.
The girls also have the opportunity to
take part in a number of competitions throughout the year. The
prestigious Target 2.0 allows the Economists to present their ideas
and opinions on current monetary policy to a panel of Bank of
England representatives. The Business students are able to display
their consumer rights knowledge through an interactive team quiz in
the Young Consumers of the Year Competition. In 2011 we qualified
for the National Finals and competed in an all expenses paid trip
to the Final in Bournemouth. We also have a number of organised
trips and residential visits, including London and
Paris.
The Department boasts a high
progression rate on to Economics and/or Business related degree
courses. Both subjects also support higher education applications
to many varied degree courses as well as developing skills and
qualities required in the world of work.
