Physical Education

Activities within the Physical Education Department are designed to support, complement and contribute to the aims of Bolton School by providing equality of opportunity for all pupils within a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.

At KS3, the emphasis is on acquiring motor skills through the activities of Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Netball, Rounders, Swimming and Tennis. By KS4, pupils have the opportunity to experience a wider range of sports including Badminton, Basketball, Football and Volleyball. Physical Education is extended through to Years 12 and 13 as part of the Curriculum Enrichment Programme. Pupils can opt to try Football, Rugby, Jujitsu, Golf and Running in addition to the more recreational activities of Badminton and Swimming.

There is a strong emphasis on traditional team sports with representative teams in Athletics, Badminton, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Netball, Swimming and Tennis, with some individuals competing at County, Regional and National level. Complementing this is a thriving structure of Inter-Form Competitions for Years 7-10 in Athletics, Lacrosse, Netball, Swimming and Rounders. For those wishing to participate in activities for fun there are clubs for Athletics, Badminton, Netball, Rounders, Running and Tennis.

Extensive facilities on and off site include a 25 metre swimming pool, sports hall, fully-equipped gymnasium, 18 tennis courts, 3 lacrosse pitches, 400 metre running track and sports pavilion.
