We believe that our girls gain much from taking part in drama
and theatre activities: they acquire new knowledge and expertise,
as well as developing self-awareness, group skills and confidence.
Below are some of the extra curricular drama activities we are
proud to offer.
Middle School Drama Clubs
Led by Sixth Formers, these clubs are extremely popular with
girls from Years 7 - 9. The clubs produce two very entertaining and
original evening shows for parents each year.
Twilight Drama Workshops
We offer girls in Year 10 the opportunity to acquire GCSE drama
skills in these after-school sessions.
Short Courses in Lighting, Sound and Makeup
These offer girls the chance to develop their interests in
design aspects of theatre.
Theatre Company Workshops
We regularly invite companies such as the English Touring
Theatre and the Manchester Actors' Company into school.
Joint School Productions
Recent productions include "As You Like It", "Grease", "The
Crucible", "West Side Story", Durrenmatt's "The Visit" and "Little
Shop of Horrors". In March 2009 "Hamlet" was directed by
Mrs T Sowerby, Head of English.
Drama Festivals
In addition to joint productions, we regularly run our own
showcase events in the Girls' Division. We also take part in the
British Schools' Shakespeare Festival presenting a thirty minute
performance of a Shakespeare play at a professional theatre. Recent
productions for this festival include "Twelfth Night" and "Macbeth"
and, in 2008, Year 10 and 11 girls performed in "As You Like It".
Several of our students have also become members of the National
Youth Theatre.
