Sixth Form life is different from that in the rest of the
school!
Students wear their own clothes and have their own
accommodation. This consists of: a well-equipped area for quiet
study; a common room with work areas, easy chairs and coffee
tables; and a kitchen with vending machines for snacks and drinks,
a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, sandwich toaster
and chilled water dispenser. Visitors from the Boys' Division are
welcome to come into the Common Room after 12.00 noon each day.
Girls can also visit the Boys' Common Room and use the facilities
provided.
Full school lunches are still provided but many students choose
to collect a snack lunch from the Dining Room at morning break to
eat at their leisure with their friends in the Common Room.
Students are allowed out of school at lunchtime and in two
nominated double periods a week. In the Upper Sixth this is
extended to three double periods.
Students also take on more responsibilities within school by
running clubs and societies, acting as school guides and helping
out at lunchtimes. At the end of the second term in the Lower Sixth
the Senior Prefects and Head Girls are elected by all the members
of their year group. Highlights of the Upper Sixth year include the
Prefects' Panto which takes place every Christmas, the Leavers'
Ball and the production of a beautifully bound, glossy Yearbook as
a memento of the girls' time at Bolton School.
