"The best thing I can say of the school was that it worked. It embedded in me habits of reading and thinking as well as an enduring curiosity about just about everything."

Bolton School Hosts Last Tango

Tuesday, 19 August 2014

Bolton School was delighted to welcome back the cast and crew of BBC One’s romantic drama, Last Tango in Halifax, for the filming of series three.

Although it was summer, and the halls empty of Bolton School students, the production team brought a buzz of activity to the campus as filming took place. The Boys' Division Great Hall and Headmaster’s Study were used along with several classrooms, offices and corridors to represent the independent school at which Sarah Lancashire’s character is Headmistress. Some filming also took place outside the new Riley Sixth Form Centre, which opened in September 2013. Fans of the programme may remember the Riley Centre as a building site in the middle of the campus: the construction was cleverly woven into the plot of the second series!

The first two series of Last Tango in Halifax, which follows the lives of two childhood sweethearts reunited after sixty years, have been a huge hit, leading to the programme winning the 2013 Drama BAFTA. The third series will be returning to BBC One later this autumn.
