A group of pupils from Bolton School were caught up in the air
travel crisis caused by a cloud of volcanic ash in European
Airspace.
The 13 Senior girls and their teachers found themselves stranded
in Germany following an exchange visit to Padderbourne, but luckily
for them the Transport Department sprang into action and quickly
organised a coach to travel out and bring them home!
Transport Manager Dave Horrocks arranged for one of the Bolton
School coaches to take the German students who were also stranded
over here all the way back to Germany, and to pick up the Bolton
School pupils to bring them back to the UK.
The students had been scheduled to fly back on Sunday but due to
the ash cloud their flight along with all others was cancelled.
Instead they travelled to Bonn where the school coach picked them
up and brought them home on a 16 hour journey, arriving back in
Bolton at 3.00am Monday morning. It is a position many people found
themselves in as flight cancellations left them stranded abroad.
Unfortunately for most however they didn't have Bolton School
Coaches to come to their rescue!
