Bolton School Chamber Choir joined forces and voices with the
Concert Choir from Concordia University in Canada to raise money
for Haiti, by performing a concert at St Ann's Church in
Manchester.
The Concordia Concert Choir are on tour in the UK at the moment
and will also perform in Ely, Cambridge, Canterbury and London on
their visit. The concert was organised in conjunction with their
tour company ACFEA Tour Consultants and Bolton School, and all
money donated to the collection at the end of the performance will
go to the Haiti Disaster Fund.
The Bolton School Chamber Choir, directed by Alistair MacKenzie,
opened the evening with wonderful renditions of five songs
including 'This Little Babe' and 'Magnificat', followed by the
Concordia Concert Choir, directed by Dr Joy Berg, who performed six
songs including 'The Glory of the Father' and 'Thou Shalt Know
Him'. After the interval each choir performed three more songs and
the audience were treated to 'Blue Moon' and 'Adiemus' among
others, before the choirs combined for a breathtaking joint
performance of the 'Hallelujah' Chorus from Messiah.
Concordia Concert Choir is part of the academic programme at
Concordia University College in Edmonton, Alberta, where choirs
take a central role in the School of Music's activities. This
year, the ensemble comprises 31 auditioned, mixed voices from
various disciplines and interests who regularly perform at
concerts, chapel services and special events on campus and in the
Edmonton area, as well as at professional music, education and
church conferences.
The Bolton School Chamber Choir also perform in many public
performances throughout the year, and have performed in major
concert venues including Manchester Cathedral and The Bridgewater
Hall, with orchestras - notably the Manchester Camerata - and with
choral societies. They have also performed in European cities
including Prague, Vienna, Paris and Chartres.
