Bolton School Girls' and Boys' Divisions combined for a musical
extravaganza, filling the Great Hall with rousing performances to
break through the chill of a dark Autumn evening.
The very best of Bolton School's talent was on show for this
annual concert, and over 300 pupils were involved: Joint Senior
Concert Band, Joint Junior Concert Band, Girls' Division
Percussion Ensemble, Joint Intermediate Concert Band, Girls'
Division String Ensemble, Joint Orchestra, Girls'
Division Middle School Choir, Girls' Division Senior Flute
Quartet, Joint Junior Chamber Choir, Joint Chamber
Choir and Joint Senior Choir.
The Senior Concert Band opened with an enthusiastic rendition of
with "The Story of Mumble Happy Feet" and "Two
Worlds" followed closely by a compelling performance of
"My Favourite Things" from The Sound of Music by the Joint Junior
Concert band. The evening continued as it began with many
outstanding, even magical performances. The Girls'
Division's String Ensemble provided a musical and articulate
performance of two movements from Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A
Minor. Our Year 5 soloist, Isobel Howard, astonished all
those present with a very mature interpretation. The Girls'
Division Percussion Ensemble provided verve and vitality with
their performances of the "The Look of Love" followed by
Abba's "Money Money Money" which had the audience tapping
their feet. Mr Forgrieve's "Upfront Samba" provided a real
insight into the variety of effects that are possible on untuned
percussion instruments.
The Intermediate Concert Band performed a roof
raising "Best of Beatles" medley; the audience were moved
by the Joint Orchestra's impressive and atmospheric performance of
'Polovtsian Dances' from 'Prince Igor' by Borodin. The Chamber
Choir performed a setting of the "Magnificat" which was most
inspiring with organ accompaniement, which was followed
by "Blue Moon," a cappella, which amply demonstrated their
versatility. The large numbers in the Middle School Choir and
Joint Junior Chamber Choir both provided outstanding
performances. The Senior Choir concluded this lovely
evening with a very atmospheric performance of "The Way
We Were" and a thrilling interpretation of Benjamin
Britten's "This Little Babe".
Once again, a fantastic evening was had by performers and
audience alike. All the preparation and hard work has
been rewarded with some wonderful musical performances.
A big 'Thank You' to all involved!
