Bolton School Girls' and Boys' Divisions combined for a magical
May Serenade, filling the Great Hall with rousing performances on a
fine Spring evening.
The very best of Bolton School's musical talent was on show for
the concert, which involved the Senior Concert
Band, Intermediate Concert Band, Joint Orchestra, String
Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Middle School Choir, Senior Flute
Choir, Junior Chamber Choir, Chamber Choir, Senior Choir and
the Jazz Band.
The Joint Orchestra opened with an enthusiastic rendition of
'Dance of the Tumblers' from The Snow Maiden followed
closely by a compelling performance of 'Presto' from Violin
Concerto by the String Ensemble, featuring a breathtaking violin
solo from Isobel Howard in Year 5. Next to take the stage was the
Intermediate Concert Band with their lively 'Slumdog Millionaire'
performance, and the evening continued with many outstanding
offerings including Coldplay and The Carpenters Medleys from the
Senior Concert Band and 'California Dreaming' sung beautifully by
the Middle School Choir. The Junior Chamber Choir moved the
audience with 'Gaudeamus Hodie' and entertained them with 'Sway'
while the Chamber Choir performed a truly inspiring version of 'The
Rhythm of Life'.
The Joint Jazz Band concluded a fantastic evening in style
with foot tapping performances of 'Session Samba' and 'Have You
Seen them Cakes'. Adding to the creative atmosphere of the evening,
exam pupils' Art, Textiles and Technology work were on display in
and around the Great Hall for the audience to enjoy.
