Messiah Showcases the School Family’s Musical Talent

Wednesday, 24 March 2010

Over two hundred participants from across the Bolton School family came together to show off their musical prowess with a stunning interpretation of George Frideric Handel's Messiah.

The School's Joint Orchestra, the Girls' Division Senior Choir, the Boys' Division Senior Choir and the Bolton School Chamber Choir were joined by the Bolton School Parents' Choir, which is made up of parents, staff, governors, former pupils and friends from the Bolton School community.  Four accomplished soloists, all of whom teach at the School, also played their part in this wonderful evening of inspiring music; soprano Stephanie Ives, mezzo-soprano Anna Barry, tenor Kevin Matthews and bass-baritone Jonathan Ainscough.

Mr Alistair MacKenzie, Head of Music in the Girls' Division, was the conductor for this breathtaking concert, which, given the complexity of this musical masterpiece, really did demonstrate the School community's depth and range of musical talent.  The audience of over 500 people was truly appreciative and offered a standing ovation at the end.

We look forward to Spring 2011 when they will perform Josef Haydn's exciting work "The Creation".
