"I remember my days at school vividly and with great affection. Bolton School has a great tradition in the liberal arts. I've always acted for the love of it and this first love was inspired at Hopefield, the school theatre."

Platinum Award for Jazz Band

Friday, 18 May 2012

Bolton School Jazz Band has returned from the prestigious National Concert Band Finals with a thoroughly deserved Platinum Award. The adjudicators were full of praise for their performance and congratulated them on the choice of programme which ranged from 'Swing' to 'Funk'. They opened with 'Hit the Bricks' by Gordon Goodwin, then 'North Africa' by Chic Corea arranged Tomaro, followed by 'City Dock' by W Scott Ragsdale and finished off with 'Pick up the Pieces' by Duncan, Gornie, Stuart, Mckintosh and McIntyre and arranged by Lopez.

The band travelled down to London for the National Finals after receiving a Gold Award at the regional heat held in Rochdale in March. Special mention must be made to all the 'ad lib' soloists who all ticked the Platinum box. They were Beth Gliddon (piano), Jennifer Pearson (Tenor Saxophone), Katie Lloyd (Alto Saxophone), Jessica Galloway (Trombone) and Toby Cowling (Trumpet). It was a truly wonderful day and Musical Director, Miss Fiona Berry was ecstatic as she thanked the band for their hard work, commitment and effort.
