"The best thing I can say of the school was that it worked. It embedded in me habits of reading and thinking as well as an enduring curiosity about just about everything."

Senior Concert Band's Music for Youth Appearance

Saturday, 19 March 2016

Saturday 19 March saw the Bolton School Senior Concert Band travel to Wardle Academy, Rochdale, to perform as part of the Music for Youth Festival.

The group performed three movements of ‘Riverdance’, by Bill Whelan and arranged by Johan de Meij, having performed the piece in full the weekend before at the Bolton School’s Port Sunlight Gala Concert.

In a great afternoon of music making, the Senior Concert Band performed alongside Brass Bands, Jazz Bands, Saxophone Ensembles, Guitar Groups and String Quartets from other schools and music centres. At the conclusion of the performances, the adjudicators gave feedback to all performers. The Senior Concert Band were praised for their detailed and accurate rendition of a musically challenging work. Year 13 student Jessica Willcock, Year 12 student Zoe Stirzaker and Year 9 student Jonny Shine were singled out in the adjudication report for their outstanding playing; other comments included:

“Luscious texture changes performed very delicately” and “there were some stunning moments in this.”

Congratulations to all members of the Senior Concert Band.

The Park Road Year 4 Choir, Bolton School Tuned Percussion Ensemble, Bolton School Senior Saxophone Choir and Bolton School Junior Orchestra recorded entries for Music for Youth and these can be found on the Bolton School Soundcloud site.
