Senior Girls’ British Schools Biathlon Qualifying Success

Friday, 13 November 2009

It was success all round for Senior Girls' pupils at the regional qualifying event of the British Schools' Biathlon competition, held in Liverpool on Sunday 8th November.

Girls in Year 7 completed a 500m run and 50m swimming event, and Year 8, 9 and 10 girls completed a 1000m run and 100m swim, in order to gain a place in the national final. Year 9 pupil Lydia Walker automatically secured her place in the final by putting in an excellent performance to gain 1st place overall in her age group. Two Year 8 girls were also presented with trophies for ranking 1st-6th place individually in their year group - Aimee Smith gained 3rd place and Katie Nightingale gained 5th place.

Where numbers allowed, each year was also split into teams, and the Year 8 team did especially well to receive winners medals for finishing in 1st place in the team competition.

The girls will now wait to hear if they have qualified, and will be joining Lydia for the British Schools' Biathlon National finals in Aldershot in March.
