Year 8 Experiment for Bronze CREST Awards

Thursday, 11 December 2014

The Year 8 girls have been using their weekly Science Club to work towards achieving Bronze CREST Awards.

The CREST Awards are a British Science Association programme recognising success, building skills and demonstrating personal achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) project work. The Bronze Award is focused on fun, teamwork and transferable skills and takes around ten hours of work.

The girls gave up their lunchtimes over ten weeks so that they could complete the necessary project work in groups. Each team came up with an idea and did research, with some also completing practical experiments to test their theories. Topics included the heart, making aspiring, making esters, cosmology, acid content in drinks, and the science behind bonfire night.

Each team presented their findings to their peers during Science Club, which led to a lunchtime of interesting learning for everyone.
