The Old Girls' Association would like to invite you to support
the School through donations. Our aim is to ensure that the
education we enjoyed continues to be available to girls in the
future. Every donation, large or small, will help us to achieve our
target.
In 2002, to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the founding of
Bolton Girls' School (which became the Girls' Division when it was
amalgamated with the Boys' School), the OGA decided to raise funds
for a 125th Birthday Bursary. That year, the generosity of Old
Girls provided £55,000 - enough to pay for the full seven years'
education of one new girl.
The pupil came from a primary school with no history of sending
pupils to Bolton School and did not know a soul when she arrived,
so the first few weeks were perhaps harder for her than for some of
her peer group. She quickly found her friendship group and thrived
at Bolton School.
In her first year statement she wrote: "I think I have settled
in very well and I have enjoyed a lot of the things in Bolton
School. I am learning how to organise my time. I have joined the
Classics, History and Geography Clubs and the Choir. I try to work
hard and do my best. So far I have earned two merits in Maths.
How worthwhile our efforts have been!
Keeping the door open
We are very pleased that funds have continued to come in.
This meant that we were able to award a second bursary in 2005. Our
target now is to raise new funds every year so that other girls can
follow these bursary holders. Annual contributions to the fund will
mean that we can continue to offer new bursaries to girls who could
not otherwise afford to come to Bolton School and keep the door
open for future generations. Please help if you can.
Legacies and Bequests
Legacies and bequests are an important way in which we can help
the School and ensure that the opportunities we had continue to be
available. The fund has benefited from several legacies from Old
Girls. If you have made provision, do please let us know, so that
we can thank you in your lifetime.
