The School Council, a body elected and run by the girls
themselves, meets twice a term to discuss ideas and concerns under
the guidance of the Link Teacher. Now in its fifth year, it has
become a valuable way for students to take responsibility for their
role within the Bolton School community.
Thirty-three girls representing the views of every form in the
school sit on the Council which is chaired by the Head Girl. Items
for the agenda come mainly from the girls although sometimes staff
may ask for a proposal to be discussed. Issues raised and carried
during the past twelve months have included: the extension of
recycling, the extension of library opening times, monitoring of
toilets, amendments to the school uniform and the removal of bells
from the school day.
The Council's recommendations are discussed with the
Headmistress and Staff and a response to each one is fed back to
the whole school via the Council Representatives.
Finance for the day-to-day running of the Council and for
special projects is provided by The Parents' Association. This
year, thanks to their generosity, we have been able to buy new bag
racks for the toilets as well as renewing membership of School
Councils UK. Further projects are in the pipeline.
