A Level PE is Up and Running in the Boys' Division

September 2008 has seen the launch of Physical Education as a new A Level in the Boys' Division. Students embarking upon AS PE will choose a number of activities in which they will participate and also gain experience in coaching and officiating the activities so as to develop their understanding and appreciation of coaching points, skills, rules and the application of tactics. They will examine physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and historical factors that underpin sporting performance. Sixty five percent of the course content is theoretical.

There are no specific requirements for entry into the course, although Grade A or B in Biology would be an advantage. An obvious background and interest in sport is essential.

The new course will help students progress into Sports Science and Sports Studies and, further down the line, into careers in leisure and recreational management, physiotherapy, coaching, the teaching of Physical Education, lecturing and sport administration.
