Ex-Student's Charity Work in Nepal

Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Old Boy Ashley Farrell returned to the School to thank the Charities Committee for their contribution towards his charity work in Nepal, to tell the Sixth Form about his Nepalese adventure and to encourage them to get involved with charity work in the Himalayan country.

Ashley had spent 6 weeks in Nepal over the summer of 2008 working for the "Future for Nepal" charity. He was with a team of students from Durham University's Charity Committee. He told the Sixth Form how his visit included teaching Nepalese children, trekking to the Annapurna base camp and indulging himself in the culture of this fascinating country. In order to fund the trip he had to raise £1050 for the charity and £1050 for travelling expenses. Bolton School Charities Committee had helped him raise the money by pledging £300 to the cause.

In summation, Ashley said: "I would like to thank the School for not only supporting me financially but also for giving me the inspiration and knowledge that I was then able to pass on to the pupils in Nepal. I would like to thank the School for the memorable lessons, whose experience I drew from in order to create my own."

Ashley left Bolton School in the summer of 2007 and is now a student at Durham University.  He will be returning to Nepal in the summer of 2009, leading a team of 20 students in another charity mission. He will raise money for his next visit by running the Barcelona marathon in March of 2009.
