Bolton School Sixth Form pupil Ishaq Ali was named runner up in
the Bolton Borough award at the Vinvolved team Volunteer
Celebration Event 2010.
Ishaq received the award in a ceremony during the Youth
Volunteering party held at the Castlefield Hotel in Manchester,
where volunteers from Oldham, Bury and Manchester met to celebrate
their outstanding contributions to their communities. Ishaq was
commended for his work with Bolton Lad's and Girls' Club, the
Bolton School SHINE project and his participation in conservation
projects, and Su Lewis from Vinvolved noted that his volunteering
had gone from strength to strength this year. Ishaq said: "It was
an enormous honour to be nominated, I've really enjoyed
volunteering, particularly the hands on environmental work".
Michael Conroy and Sean Gallagher were also invited to the event
in recognition of the time they devote to supporting the
11th and 19th Bolton Cubs. Michael said: "It
is very rewarding to work with young people. It is enjoyable to see
what they get out of the activities we do. This event brings to
life the other volunteering efforts throughout Greater Manchester
and I think it's really worthwhile."
Vinvolved is the new national youth volunteering programme for
16 to 25 year olds. It is England's biggest ever youth action
scheme and is aiming to inspire half a million young people to
volunteer.
