Departing Head Boy, Jack Roberts, has put together some
reflections on what was special about his Bolton School
education. They can be read below:
I have been very ambivalent since receiving my A-Level grades in
August.
Of course, I am delighted to have achieved 4 As, which allows me
to study Medicine at St. John's College, Cambridge from October
this year.
However, the receipt of my results has also underlined the end
of my school life, and more importantly, the end of my career as a
pupil at Bolton School.
Be it in the classroom, on the rugby pitch, on the stage or even
in Patterdale, I have always been encouraged to be the best I
possibly can be. On an academic level, I have been constantly
challenged, and never let to cruise through my studies. In sport, I
always have been asked to run that extra yard for the team. This
has instilled a competitive drive within me that cannot be
extinguished, and it has helped me to achieve so many of my
goals.
Bolton School has made me a more confident person, whilst also
keeping me well aware of my duties to the community. It has
provided me with opportunities to show leadership, most
particularly when I was elected School Captain last year, and also
to work well in a team.
Being Captain of such a wonderful school is undoubtedly my
greatest honour to date, and I thank all of last year's 44-strong
Monitorial team for making it such an enjoyable role to fulfil. A
special thanks must go to Alex Fisher and Mobeen Qureshi, the two
Vice-Captains, and Mr. Wardle and Mr. Britton for all their
support.
Whilst I'm thanking people, I also wish to say thank you to all
the teachers who taught me over the years, all the kitchen staff
for keeping me full throughout the day, all the ground staff for
making the Levels some of the best sports' fields I've ever played
on. I'd also like to thank Toggy for his help on cold, wet, muddy
match days, and of course, Carol in the Sixth Form Common Room! You
will all be greatly missed.
I have made some great friends at Bolton School, and I will do
my utmost to stay in touch in the future.
It is a brilliant place and I could not have enjoyed my time
here any more.
