How to Apply
The minimum requirement for entry from outside Bolton School into the Sixth Form is at least six passes at Grade A*-B or Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 at GCSE or an equivalent qualification. External candidates must have at least a Grade C or Grade 4 in English, Mathematics and Science (whether Trilogy or one of the single science subjects.) External candidates will normally be expected to have an A grade or Grade 7-9 in s subject chosen for A Level if they have taken that subject to GCSE. Candidates will need to show determination to succeed in their chosen courses. Admission is dependent on ability, commitment and a good attitude to study as demonstrated at GCSE.
Once an application has been made, you will receive an invitation for interview. These will be held on the 5, 6 and 7 March 2018. You will be asked to bring your school reports, record of achievement and Mock Examination results with you. If you are considering Art or Technology as one of your options, you should also bring your portfolio. Offers will be based on your interview and your school reference. Students who apply for financial assistance will be required to take a CAT Test.
Offers will be based on your interview with a member of the School Management Team, an interview with at least two Heads of Department (representing subjects you have said that you would like to take), your performance in an online test (designed to assess your potential) and your school reference. Any offers made at this stage will be provisional until the GCSE results are known.
Candidates who have received an offer will be invited to spend a day in school meeting each other, as well as staff from the subjects they have chosen and students from their year group. This introductory day will take place in late June, after the GCSE examinations are over.
When the GCSE results are announced, successful candidates will need to bring information about their results into school to demonstrate that they have met the entrance criteria.
Bursary support is available to students applying to join the Girls' Division Sixth Form. We award bursaries after consideration of family income and a student's academic merit; in order to help us ascertain the academic potential of a girl applying for a bursary we will require her to sit a cognitive test administered by the School. Bursary applicants must fill in this supplementary form (external candidates) or this supplementary form (internal candidates).
Prospective candidates and their parents are advised to read the Admissions Policy which can be found here and which includes information about SEND/ EAL and information about the School’s policies.
